Craque brasileira participou de partida no país como embaixadora da ONU

Eleita melhor jogadora do mundo nos últimos cinco anos pela Fifa, Marta teve um dia de treinadora no último domingo: como embaixadora da Boa Vontade do Programa das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento, a craque comandou o Diamond Queens em uma partida de futebol feminino contra o Sierra Queens em Serra Leoa.

País mais pobre do mundo segundo relatórias da ONU, Serra Leoa foi escolhido pela organização para a primeira viagem internacional de Marta como embaixadora do PNUD. A craque passou o último final de semana na África e, além de palestras e encontros com atletas, viu a partida entre Serra Leoa e Egito pelas eliminatórias da Copa Africana de Nações.

_Coreia do Norte qualifica-se para os Jogos Olímpicos

A Coreia do Norte será a segunda representante da Ásia no Torneio de Futebol Feminino dos Jogos Olímpicos de Londres 2012, ao lado do Japão. A vaga foi confirmada com a vitória por 5 a 0 sobre a Tailândia na rodada final das Eliminatórias Asiáticas, resultado que deixou as norte-coreanas no segundo lugar geral.

As japonesas, actuais campeãs mundiais, haviam garantido a classificação na última quinta-feira.

A Coreia do Norte precisava de três pontos na última rodada para garantir seu lugar à frente da Austrália, finalista da última Copa do Mundo Feminina da FIFA Alemanha 2011, sem depender de outros resultados.

A vitória das norte-coreanas começou a ser construída com golos de Yun Song Mi e Choe Mi Gyong ainda no primeiro tempo. Ra Un Sim ainda marcou outros dois para transformar o placar em goleada.

Enquanto isso, a Austrália, que precisava vencer e torcer por um tropeço da Coreia do Norte, fez sua parte e derrotou a Coreia do Sul por 2 a 1, terminando o hexagonal asiático em terceiro lugar. Lisa De Vanna e Tameka Bundas marcaram os golos australianos já no segundo tempo, depois de as sul-coreanas abrirem o placar com Kwon Hah Nul na primeira etapa.

A anfitriã China ficou em quarto lugar, à frente da Coreia do Sul e da Tailândia, no torneio realizado em Jinan. Os outros países que já garantiram vaga em Londres 2012 até o momento são a França, Suécia, Brasil e Colômbia, além da anfitriã Inglaterra.

_FIFA investiga homofobia no futebol feminino

A FIFA anunciou hoje que irá investigar a homofobia no futebol feminino.


Months after the Japanese national team have returned home with its first FIFA Women's World Cup title, the governing body of international soccer announced that it will investigate homophobia in the sport.

According to activist organization AllOut.org, which began a campaign to condemn homophobia in women's soccer, FIFA's secretary general Jérôme Valcke announced an investigation against Nigerian Football coach Eucharia Uche.

A New York Times profile of the women's World Cup quoted her as saying, “The issue of lesbianism is common. I came to realize it is not a physical battle; we need divine intervention in order to control and curb it. I tell you it worked for us. This is a thing of the past. It is never mentioned.”

Shortly thereafter, All Out, the Federation of Gay Games, and the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association gathered 46,000 signatures for a petition urging FIFA to condemn homophobia in soccer. They also orchestrated a flash mob outside of the stadium at the semi-finals to bring attention to the issue of homophobia.

"Today we are excited to see FIFA take a first, critical step…" Andre Banks, the co-founder of AllOut.org, said in a statement Friday. "By launching an immediate probe into coach Uche's homophobic statements, the international governing body of soccer is sending a clear and important message: homophobia has no place in football, on or off the field."

_John Herdman é o novo seleccionador do Canadá

A Associação Canadiana de Futebol anunciou hoje que John Herdman será o novo seleccionador nacional de equipa feminina de futebol. Desde 2006 que Herdamn treinava a selecção feminina da Nova Zelândia e conseguiu que esta mesma equipa se qualificasse duas vezes para o Mundial de Futebol sendo que a última participação foi este ano na Alemanha.

(...) Coach Herdman will take the reins of the 8th ranked Canadian team that is gearing up for the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament to be held in Vancouver, January 19-29. The team has its sights set on a second straight Women's Olympic Football Tournament having competed in Beijing in 2008. As part of his role, Herdman will also contribute to the Canadian Soccer Association's development of a long term vision for women's soccer in Canada. "This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a fantastic country and with a team that has the genuine potential to be the best in the world," stated Herdman.

"The focus is multi-layered – with the Olympics sitting just around the corner, my job is to help the team achieve their podium goals, while keeping one eye on the long-term preparation for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015 and achieving sustained success beyond this event.

"On the opportunity to lead the host country for a FIFA Women's World Cup, Herdman commented that "being a key player in helping the team prepare for a home FIFA World Cup is a huge responsibility. The FIFA Women's World Cup 2015 in Canada has the potential to be the tipping point for the explosion of the women's game in Canada. The Canadian Soccer Association has provided this opportunity by securing the competition and it will now be the job of the players and the support team to ensure we are ready to deliver on this exciting stage".


Born in England, Herdman arrived in New Zealand in 2002 when he began to work with elite women players. This experience brought him to New Zealand Football in 2006 as their Coach Education Manager. That role was followed by his position as the Director of Football Development which he continued to hold when he assumed his role as Head Coach for the senior women's national team in late 2006. Herdman also led the Junior Football Ferns to two FIFA U-20 Women's World Cups (2008 and 2006) and during this period he was responsible for both the U-20 and senior women's national teams.
