_Alex Morgan junta-se a Leroux e Solo no Seattle Sounders

RENTON, Wash. -- Two weeks after signing U.S. national team goalkeeper Hope Solo, the Seattle Sounders women have added another national star to their roster.

The Sounders women announced Monday they have signed star forward Alex Morgan for the 2012 season.

The Sounders are part of the W-League and affiliated with the United Soccer Leagues (USL). Seattle plays in the Western Conference of the 27-team league. Morgan's signing is still pending approval.

The 22-year-old Morgan has 32 appearances and 16 goals for the national team since making her debut in 2010. She played for the Western New York Flash in the Women's Professional Soccer league a year ago.

_Marta assina com equipa sueca Tyresö FF

A internacional brasileira Marta assinou com a equipa sueca e já vai jogar nesta época desportiva.

Num discurso emocionado Marta lembrou os anos em que esteve na Suécia pelo Umea e falou das suas colegas de equipa na altura.
Após a suspensão da WPS havia muitas duvidas sobre qual seria o próximo clube de Marta principalmente devido ao facto da brasileira usufruir de um vencimento superior à maioria das jogadoras de futebol feminino. Marta falou sobre esse factor na conferência de imprensa e revelou que se fosse por dinheiro não teria escolhido a equipa sueca.

O Tyresö está a apostar muito nas contratações sonantes já que esta época contratou nomes bem conhecidos como Veronica Boquete, Caroline Seger, Lisa Dahlkvistoch e Linda Sembrant.

_Qatar: primeiro jogo oficial feminino com portuguesa no banco

O dia 16 de Fevereiro de 2012 ficará marcado na história do desporto do Qatar, com a realização do primeiro jogo oficial feminino. Com a portuguesa Helena Costa no banco, a selecção da casa foi derrotada pelo Afeganistão (0-2), mas garantiu uma importante conquista em termos culturais.

«O jogo disputou-se na Academia Aspire, no centro de Doha. Os únicos homens que estavam na bancada eram afegãos, ou pais e irmãos das jogadoras. De resto só mulheres. Foi um passo grande, dentro de algumas limitações. Há jogadoras cujas famílias não concordam, e por isso não podem ser fotografadas», explicou a treinadora portuguesa ao Maisfutebol.

Orgulhosa do momento histórico em que participou, Helena Costa desvaloriza as barreiras que ainda estão por ultrapassar. A treinar a selecção do Qatar desde Março de 2010, sente que a evolução tem sido muito positiva, num trabalho que é muito mais do que apenas desportivo. «Eu diria que é 80 por cento social, e apenas 20 por cento desportivo, embora a minha responsabilidade seja desportiva. Não se pode pedir tudo de um dia para o outro. Estas dificuldades não são novidade para mim. Posso querer recrutar uma jogadora com qualidade, pode não ser possível contar com ela. Tem de ser passo a passo.»

Impacto na comunicação social ajuda a mudar mentalidades

A realização do primeiro jogo oficial feminino, que contou com o apoio do Emir, teve forte impacto na comunicação social. «O mais gratificante é ver isto na televisão e em jornais não desportivos. Um dia isto será acompanhado por uma mudança de mentalidades», acredita Helena Costa. «O Qatar vai organizar o Mundial de futebol e também se candidatou aos Jogos Olímpicos. Basta dizer que há apenas dois feriados aqui: o dia do Qatar e o Dia do Desporto. Isso mostra o investimento que tem sido feito», acrescenta.

Habituada a uma realidade cultural bem diferente, a treinadora não ficou indiferente ao momento histórico que viveu. «Senti o hino como se fosse o português, e penso que isso diz muito. Foi óptimo ver público nas bancadas, ter mulheres qataris a apoiar, e sentir que existia reconhecimento do esforço feito. É um orgulho», revelou ao nosso jornal.

O jogo entre as selecções femininas do Qatar e do Afeganistão era particular, mas legitimado pela FIFA, pelo que conta para o «ranking». Até então a selecção de Helena Costa só tinha feito três jogos, num torneio disputado no Bahrain. Para o próximo mês está previsto o segundo passo de afirmação do futebol feminino no Qatar, com a provável realização de um novo jogo, aproveitando a data FIFA.

Having failed to win a UEFA European Women's Championship fixture − or any qualifier at all − for the first time since 1999 when they drew 2-2 with Spain in November, Germany needed victory in Turkey to move level at the top of Group 2. Without Nadine Angerer, Inka Grings, Kim Kulig, Simone Laudehr and Fatmire Bajramaj, not to mention suspended coach Silvia Neid, Germany won 5-0 in Izmir to ensure the 31 March visit of Spain to Mannheim should decide first place and automatic qualification.

Winners of the last five European titles, Germany were two up in 11 minutes when Dzsenifer Maroszan − earning her fourth cap − shot in from 25 metres and then the returning Linda Bresonik's cross was volleyed in by Célia Okoyino da Mbabi. Several more chances went begging before the break, and just before the hour debutant goalkeeper Almuth Schult had to save from Arzu Karabulut.

Eventually Germany stretched away, Bresonik pouncing on a rebound after substitute Anja Mittag had hit the bar and Melanie Behringer scoring twice in the last 14 minutes. However, in the dying moments Bartusiak − captaining Germany on her 50th appearance − was dismissed for a second booking and will miss the game against Spain.

Neid, who now takes her side to the Algarve Cup, said: "We started well, but wasted too many opportunities. Our passing game didn't work at its best and we have to work hard. It was our first game after the winter break, that might be an excuse."

_Hope Solo e Sydney Leroux assinam pelo Seattle Sounders

RENTON , Wash– The Sounders Women have signed goalkeeper Hope Solo and forward Sydney Leroux, the team announced today.

Solo, 30, is the starting goalkeeper for the United States Women’s National Team. Solo helped lead the women to the FIFA World Cup 2011 Final in Germany and was named the Golden Glove winner of that tournament. She was a member of the 2008 Women’s U.S. Olympic Team that won a gold medal in Beijing and an alternate on the 2004 team in Greece. A native of Richland, Washington, she played for the University of Washington and is a member of the Husky Hall of Fame. Solo is a four-time All-Pac-10 Selection.

“Hope is undoubtedly the best women’s keeper in the game today,” said Sounders General Manager Amy Carnell. “Her signing represents the caliber player Sounders Women’s fans can expect in 2012. As the landscape of women’s soccer continues to evolve, we realize the unique opportunity before us. The addition of Hope Solo and Sydney Leroux sets the tone for what we think will be a very special year for Sounders Women’s soccer.” A prolific scorer with the U.S.

Under-20 Women’s National Team, Leroux earned her first cap as a second-half substitute against Sweden in the Four Nations Tournament in Chingqong, China, on January 21, 2011. During Olympic Qualifying earlier this year, Leroux scored five goals in only her second cap. Leroux played four seasons for UCLA and was named to Soccer America’s MVP First Team in 2010 and 2011. She was born in British Columbia, Canada.

“Sydney is the consummate goal scorer with an incredible attacking attitude,” said Head Coach Michelle French. “She not only shows tireless effort on the offensive side of the ball, but she is very unique in that she prides herself on her defensive recovery and ability to win the ball back. She makes an impact no matter where she plays on the field.”

Solo and Leroux will be available in conjunction with the Olympic Training Camp schedule as the U.S. Women's National Team prepares for the 2012 Olympics in London.
