A lenda do futebol japonês e mundial encosta as botas a nível internacional.

Aug 11 (Reuters) - Japan's Homare Sawa, the reigning women's world player of the year, is set to retire from international soccer after finishing with a silver medal at the London Olympics.

The 33-year-old, who spearheaded Japan's stunning triumph at last year's World Cup in Germany, will continue her career at club level, local media reported.

"I've achieved what I can and have no regrets," Sawa told Japan's Nikkan Sports daily following Thursday's 2-1 defeat by the United States in the gold medal match in London.
"I always wanted an Olympic gold medal but I've given everything. This is the end," added Sawa, who played in five World Cups and scored 81 goals in 186 appearances for Japan.
"To be honest it's become hard to be 100 percent for Japan training, physically and schedule-wise. We finished with a medal so it's a good time to call it a day."

Sawa's goals were instrumental in Japan's astonishing run during last year's World Cup when they toppled the Americans in a penalty shootout in the final in Frankfurt.

Japan's "Nadeshiko" team, named after a frilly pink carnation, embodied the steely determination of a country coming to terms with the deadly tsunami and a raging nuclear crisis. (Reporting by Alastair Himmer; Editing by Sudipto Ganguly)

LONDON – Video games giant EA Sports has received criticism for failing to include women's players and teams on its popular title "FIFA" in the wake of the United States' dramatic victory for the Olympic gold medal. 

The Americans' 2-1 triumph over Japan was watched by an audience of 4.35 million, a new record for NBC Sports Network. The program's standard of play at major events like the Olympics and Women's World Cup has improved dramatically. 

Yet, there are still no soccer video games that feature women, denying fans the opportunity to perform as stars like Abby Wambach or Hope Solo on "FIFA," a new version of which is released every year and has sold more than 100 million copies. 

Frustrated fan Fernanda Schabarum from Boca Raton, Fla., began a petition this week to try to force EA Sports to change its policy and respond to the additional exposure of women's soccer following a remarkable Olympic tournament. Schabarum started a campaign on the website change.org(Ajuda e assina a petição). As of Saturday evening, the petition already had more than 1,400 signees.

Gold-medal hero Carli Lloyd, who scored twice in the American's final victory, believes adding female athletes to the game could have a positive impact on women's soccer. 

"I would love for EA Sports to add females to the FIFA games," Lloyd said. "Women's sports have come a long way, and it will only help grow the game if EA Sports added females to the game." 

An EA Sports official said the company routinely reviews fans' suggestions for the game. 

"We get literally thousands upon thousands of suggestions from our fans for new features and we have to evaluate those suggestions, such as the inclusion of female players in the game, against our resources, priorities and overall fan feedback," said David Rutter, executive producer of "FIFA 13." "At the moment, we don’t have plans to include female players in the game."

_Resumo do Jogo: Final Olímpica: EUA - Japão

_Estados Unidos...de Ouro!

Os Estados Unidos revalidou esta quinta-feira o título olímpico de futebol feminino, ao vencer o Japão por 2-1, numa final em que demonstrou enorme eficácia. A seleção americana garantiu desta forma a medalha de ouro, repetindo um feito que já tinha alcançado em 2008, em Pequim.

O jogo começou bem e Lloyd abriu o marcador logo aos oito minuto. O Japão, que defende bem e está muito confortável a jogar em contra-ataque, foi obrigado a assumir o comando. As norte-americanas defenderam mais atrás e convidaram o Japão a pegar no jogo, o que naturalmente veio a acontecer.

As japonesas, campeãs mundiais em título, recorde-se, até criaram várias ocasiões de golo, mas decididamente não estiveram bem na finalização: atiraram por exemplo duas bolas à barra. Ora Hope Solo, precisamente, teve um punhado de grandes defesas, a última das quais sob o apito final.

No meio de tudo isto, Lloyd ainda fez o segundo golo dos Estados Unidos, aos 54 minutos, aproveitando o balanceamento ofensivo das japonesas. O Japão não conseguiu melhor do que reduzir, através de um golo de Yuki Ogimi, aos 62 minutos. Foi curto, embora as japonesas tenham ameaçado o empate.

_Lady Andrade suspensa por 2 jogos pela FIFA

Abby Wambach mostra as consequências do "acidente"

A jogadora colombiana Lady Andreade foi suspensa por 2 jogos pela FIFA após ter agredido Abby Wambach na cara durante o jogo de Sábado.

O comité de disciplina da FIFA suspendeu Andrade do jogo da fase de grupos contra a França e também dos quartos-de-final, caso a Colômbia avance, de acordo com a Associated Press. Wambach disse que foi  "sucker-punched" no olho direito por Andrade ao minuto 39 na vitória americana por 3-0.

"Nada aconteceu" diz Andreade " Foi uma parte normal do jogo. Estávamos as duas a correr. ela correu atrás de mim e colidimos. Eu tinhas as minhas mãos no ar. Foi um acidente".

The Scottish player suffered the blow in the 3-0 win over Cameroon after going down in a battle for possession with opposition substitute Ajara Nchout and was carried off on a stretcher.

Women's coach Hope Powell sent the 31-year-old to have the injury assessed and the outcome means she is out of the tournament, team officials have confirmed.

The British Olympic Association have requested permission from the International Olympic Committee to bring Chelsea's versatile 24-year-old Dunia Susi into the squad as a replacement.

Great Britain have already qualified for the quarter-finals and play their final group game against Brazil at Wembley on Tuesday.
