_Inka Grings deixa FCR Duisburg

Inka Grings anunciou no dia 22 deste mês que irá abandonar o FCR Duisburg e irá ingressar num clube internacional que fará parte da Champions League. Em 94 jogos com o Duisburg, Grings marcou 64 golos.

Prior to the opening of the 2011-2012 Frauen Bundesliga season, Grings was not pleased with the dismissal of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg as Duisburg’s coach. The new coach, Marco Ketelaer, further added fuel to the fire by deciding that Grings would no longer wear the captains arm band and announced that Annike Krahn would serve as the team’s captain.

Three days before Duisburg’s first match against Lok Leipzig, it was announced that Grings would not play due to her having the “flu”. I was extremely skeptical that Duisburg was telling the truth about the status of Grings. Players who have the flu are usually not declared that they will miss the game three days prior to the match. These decisions based on illness are usually made on game day or the night before. Clearly, it was known that Grings would probably not play due to the other underlying issues.

Grings expressed her sadness about leaving the club. She also thanked the fans for their support. The Duisburg players certainly had Grings on their mind during their match against Leipzig. After scoring, Popp ran over to where Grings to pay homage to the former star.

German media is speculating that Grings may end up with French side Lyon or with a Russian team.
