_Sky Blue contrata Manon Melis e Candace Chapman

With the free agent market opened up in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS), Sky Blue FC made its first major move of the offseason, inking Canadian defender Candace Chapman, who played last season for the WPS Champions WNY Flash, and Dutch international forward Manon Melis, the leading scorer in Damallsvenskan (16 goals) this past season for Swedish champions LdB Malmö. Melis also led Damallsvenskan in scoring in 2010 (26 goals) and was tied for first in 2008 with Marta with 23 goals.

For Chapman, this is her fourth team in four WPS seasons. She began with the Boston Breakers in 2009, followed by WPS Championship seasons with FC Gold Pride in 2010 and the Flash in 2011. Chapman played for the Canadian Women’s National Team in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In WPS, Chapman has started in 41 of the 44 games she has played in, logging 3,603 minutes. She has one assist, which came this past season for the Flash. On the international level, Chapman has also played in the 2008 Summer Olympics, the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and she scored her first international goal in the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup against Haiti.

The 25-year-old Melis has played for the Netherlands since 2005. Most recently, she scored four goals in the 2013 EURO Qualifiers in a 6-0 win over Serbia. Melis played in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the Netherlands.
