_Seattle Sounders vencem em 2º amigável da época

The Sounders Women have won each of their first two games by a score of 5-0. The first victory was built by five different scorers. On Friday night, in front of a sellout crowd, Sydney Leroux scored a hat trick to put a victory on her shoulders.

Tukwila, WA – Tukwila - In the first match of the 2012 season, the Seattle Sounders Women amused a near sell-out crowd (154 tickets shy) at Starfire with five goals. The largest crowd in Sounders Women history was on hand to watch the Sounders Women defeat Seattle Pacific University by a score of 5-0.

Lyndsay Patterson started the scoring in the 6th minute with a flick on header off a Tafara Pulse corner kick. Patterson and Pulse are both Sounders veterans.

It took until the last 2 minutes of the first half for the Sounders to link up for a second goal. This time, it was two National Team players, Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux hooking up. Leroux ran down the left channel, before cutting back to the middle. She slipped a ball through to Morgan. On Morgan’s first touch, she drove the ball to the back netting with her left foot.

The second half was a chance for Veronica Perez to shine. The Mexican National Team midfielder created numerous chances for her teammates throughout the game. (...) Perez drilled the shot off the left post and into the goal for a 75th minute goal.

The Sounders would add two more goals from Kara Kuttler and Victoria Frederick in the 78th and 88th minutes. Both goals were helped on by Sydney Leroux who was a handful for the SPU defense all night long.

_Hope Solo e Sydney Leroux assinam pelo Seattle Sounders

RENTON , Wash– The Sounders Women have signed goalkeeper Hope Solo and forward Sydney Leroux, the team announced today.

Solo, 30, is the starting goalkeeper for the United States Women’s National Team. Solo helped lead the women to the FIFA World Cup 2011 Final in Germany and was named the Golden Glove winner of that tournament. She was a member of the 2008 Women’s U.S. Olympic Team that won a gold medal in Beijing and an alternate on the 2004 team in Greece. A native of Richland, Washington, she played for the University of Washington and is a member of the Husky Hall of Fame. Solo is a four-time All-Pac-10 Selection.

“Hope is undoubtedly the best women’s keeper in the game today,” said Sounders General Manager Amy Carnell. “Her signing represents the caliber player Sounders Women’s fans can expect in 2012. As the landscape of women’s soccer continues to evolve, we realize the unique opportunity before us. The addition of Hope Solo and Sydney Leroux sets the tone for what we think will be a very special year for Sounders Women’s soccer.” A prolific scorer with the U.S.

Under-20 Women’s National Team, Leroux earned her first cap as a second-half substitute against Sweden in the Four Nations Tournament in Chingqong, China, on January 21, 2011. During Olympic Qualifying earlier this year, Leroux scored five goals in only her second cap. Leroux played four seasons for UCLA and was named to Soccer America’s MVP First Team in 2010 and 2011. She was born in British Columbia, Canada.

“Sydney is the consummate goal scorer with an incredible attacking attitude,” said Head Coach Michelle French. “She not only shows tireless effort on the offensive side of the ball, but she is very unique in that she prides herself on her defensive recovery and ability to win the ball back. She makes an impact no matter where she plays on the field.”

Solo and Leroux will be available in conjunction with the Olympic Training Camp schedule as the U.S. Women's National Team prepares for the 2012 Olympics in London.

_México e EUA passam às meias-finais

Anisa Guajardo marcou três e ajudou a selecção Mexicana a passar à semi-final da CONCACAF com uma vitória por 7-0 sobre a República Dominicana

Com os jogo contra os Estados Unidos a aproximar-se, o treinador Mexicano Leonardo Cuellar promoveu nove alterações na equipa inicial em relação ao último jogo com a Guatemala. Cuellar também não pode contar con a avançada Renae Cuellar, que, segundo a federação mexicana foi ameaçada pela Universidade de Arizona que se não regressasse não terminaria a sua licenciatura.

Diaz, Rosario Sausedo e Jennifer Ruiz (2x) também contribuiram no marcador.

"Eu acho que qualquer um pode fazer o que eu fiz hoje qualquer uma destas jogadoras." disse Guajardo. " É o meu dia de sorte, acho, mas as raparigas que estavam no banco e as que estavam no campo mantiveram o bom ritmo de jogo e por isso é que o torna tão espectacular."

A Republica Dominicana já soma 21 golos sofridos em dois jogos da CONCACAF.

Leroux entra na 2º parte, marca 5 golos e EUA vencem Guatemala por 13-0.

Tal como o Canadá e o México, também os EUA fizeram alterações no onze titular em relação ao primeiro jogo. Sundhage fez seis alterações, uma dessas forçadas devido à lesão ligamentar de Alex Krieger que irá falhar os Jogos Olímpicos.

Abby Wambach marcou por duas vezes na primeira parte e aumentou o seu número de golos para 129, aproximando-se de Kristine Lilly que tem o titulo de segunda melhor marcadoras na história da selecção feminina dos EUA.

Rodriguez, Lauren Cheney, Megan Rapinoe e Morgan também marcaram por os Estados Unidos.

"Eu sei que há pessoas que não respeitam a minha decisão e há algumas que respeitam, e nem todos vão gostar de ti e eu sinto que tens de ter inimigos durante a tua vida senão não estás a fazer algo correcto, " disse Leroux sobre a sua mudança do Canadá para os EUA. " Estou contente. Estou feliz onde estou e feliz por vestir esta camisola"

Um empate é suficiente para as americanas ficarem em primeiro no grupo e assim defrontar o segundo classificado do grupo A que poderá ser o Canadá ou a Costa Rica.

Os vencedores da semi-final já ficam qualificados para os Jogos Olímpicos em Londres.
